BERITA DAILY LETTER: From Latheefa Koya, via e-mail
I read with extreme concern and disbelief that controversial preacher Zamihan Mat Zin is still involved in the rehabilitation and deradicalization programme of IS detainees in prisons.
Zamihan’s extremist views are well known, from the Muslim-only launderette controversy that caused him to be banned in Johor and Selangor to his latest comment condemning a surau in Penang for sheltering non-Muslims during a major flood. It has further been reported that Jakim has also referred him to the disciplinary board for the controversy he has caused.
It is therefore all the more shocking that despite all the controversies, he is still given access to the most extremist of people i.e. IS militants or those who supported or are sympathetic to IS.
How can a preacher who has been banned from speaking in Selangor and Johor and caused so much of controversy by pitting Muslims against non-Muslims, can still be given access to IS linked prisoners?
I therefore call for Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to immediately review Zamihan’s role in the prisons especially with regards to IS linked prisoners.
