He says this in reaction to the threat by the prime minister’s wife to sue those making allegations against her in relation to 1MDB

KUALA LUMPUR: PPBM chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad has dared Prime Minister Najib Razak’s wife Rosmah Mansor to sue the United States’ Department of Justice over a civil suit filed by the department last week.

“There are accusations against her and the jewellery mentioned in the US DOJ report. Why not challenge the DOJ?

“In Malaysia we have heard about the billion ringgit diamond story. Till now everyone believes it is true. If it is not true, show us how it is not true. If there is… should return back the diamond,” said the former prime minister in a video clip that was posted on Twitter.

The dare was made in view of Rosmah’s threat to sue those who were making allegedly false accusations against her.

“Recently more malicious and baseless attacks have surfaced against Rosmah Mansor on blogs and social media.

“These attacks are false allegations made without any proof or basis, done with malice with the sole intent of putting Rosmah in disrepute, casting aspersions of alleged wrongdoings and causing harm and injury to her reputation,” said Rosmah’s lawyer Noorhajran Mohd Noor via a statement two days ago.

Noorhajran also confirmed that they were monitoring social media and all forms of publications following the suit by DOJ.

The latest case filed by the DOJ stated that the department is also seeking to seize a rare 22-carat pink diamond set in a necklace which was among the jewellery allegedly purchased by the wife of Malaysian Official 1 (MO1) funded by money allegedly stolen from national sovereign fund company, 1Malaysia Development Berhad.

Umno minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan has confirmed before that MO1 is indeed Prime Minister Najib Razak.

The DOJ is seeking to seize a total of US$540 million (RM2.3 billion) in assets including art works, jewellery, a luxury yacht, and film rights purchased with funds allegedly embezzled from 1MDB.

The assets named also include film rights to two comedies, ‘Dumb and Dumber To’ starring Jim Carrey and ‘Daddy’s Home’ with Will Ferrell.

In a related development, Mahathir in a statement said he was not afraid because he was not making slanders.

“Rosmah said she wants to hunt down slanderers. I am not afraid as this is not slanders. The money used belongs to the people, not Rosmah.

“If you dare, sue us. We are ready.”
