It is important for Penang Chinese New Year Celebration to be held, but the Penang state government feels no responsibility for it, says MCA man
KUALA LUMPUR: The DAP-led Penang state government stands accused of sidelining the Chinese community over its failure to support the Penang Chinese New Year Celebration 2018.
According to Penang MCA secretary Tang Heap Seng, the event is to be organised by the Chinese Clans Association (PCCA) which had sought the state government’s cooperation to co-organise the event.
Tang said that PCCA, despite having unpleasant experience with the state government previously, had asked the state on Nov 22 if it was willing to co-organise the CNY celebration.
He added that the 7-day response deadline has expired and the state has not declared whether to support the event despite repeated letters from PPCA on the matter to the state government.
“The Chinese New Year is the most important festival for the Chinese community in Malaysia. But the DAP-led state government has completely ignored it.
“It is so important for Penang Chinese New Year Celebration to be held, but the Penang state government feels no responsibility for it.
“DAP really just used Chinese voters to vote for PAS and dumped them aside after that,” said Tang in a statement.
The MCA man slammed the state government for disdaining the Chinese community and for not having any sense of responsibility towards the Chinese culture.
He urged the Chinese voters in the state to overthrow the Penang Pakatan Harapan state government in the coming general election.
He also said that if the state government does not support the Penang Chinese New Year Celebration 2018, the Penang Chinese community will find another solution.
“By that time, DAP must not come forward and blame the Penang Chinese community as not having co-organised the event with the state government.
“Facts have proven that the Penang Chinese community has always sought to cooperate with the Penang state government.
“However, the state government did not give any consideration to the Penang Chinese community. The state also showed no interest in holding a Chinese festival. They scorned the Chinese but kept granting money to please another race,” he said.
Apart from the CNY celebration issue, Tang also said that the state government has also insulted the Chinese community in the way it is handling the Love Lane issue.
“The Penang state government has made it impossible for PCCA to take over our ancestors’ legacy and the only solution now is to go through legal procedures. How sad and sorrowful for the Penang Chinese community.”
He accused DAP of not only failing to take care of the Chinese community, but also of splitting the community.
