BERITA DAILY LETTER: From Sathiah Sudakaran, via e-mail
I am puzzled by the remarks made by Hannah Yeoh, the PKR candidate for Segambut parliamentary seat at a ceramah on April 29, in Taman Sri Bintang, Segambut.
In her speech, she questioned Loga Bala Mohan, who is the Barisan Nasional candidate for Segambut, on his appointment as the Federal Territory Deputy Minister despite not being an elected member of parliament.
Loga Bala Mohan was appointed as a Senator and given the position as Federal Territory Deputy Minister on May 15, 2013.
It is rather surprising, as a former Selangor Legislative Assembly House Speaker, Hannah Yeoh is yet to comprehend the provisions provide under the country’s Federal Constitution and parliamentary system.
The parliament of Malaysia comprises the House of Representatives (Dewan Rakyat) and the Senate or the Upper House (Dewan Negara).
Senators are appointed to represent the Dewan Negara to review legalisation that had been passed by the Dewan Rakyat.
BN component parties have formed their own formula and understanding on the selection and appointments of Senators.
In fact, the Selangor Legislative Assembly, in which Hannah was a Speaker, had also appointed Senators.
Hannah is just confusing the people of Segambut with her rhetoric tales.
I believe the people of Segambut are not as naive as she thought.
By the way, Hannah should explain the reasons why she had shifted from her previous state seat of Subang Jaya in GE13 to Segambut this time.
Is it a DAP culture that their elected representatives would always adopt the nomadic political culture and contest all over the places just to be elected to either the parliament or state assemblies?
Why Hannah did not stay on in Subang Jaya and seek a reelection to continue serving the people there?
Is it that Hannah had a bad report card for her miserable performance as a people’s representative in Subang Jaya that she hopped to Segambut?
Hannah should clarify this.
