KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Najib Razak said the government would monitor and ensure relief reached flood victims in Sarawak.
He hoped the flood victims in the state remained steadfast and abide to the guidelines issued by the authorities.
“I take note of the flood situation in Sarawak, the government will monitor and ensure aid reaches the victims. Hopefully everyone will be steadfast and comply with the authorities’ guidelines,” he said via Twitter.
The number of residents affected by floods in the state continued to rise with 4,859 evacuees comprising 1,463 families recorded as of 8pm yesterday.
A Sarawak State Disaster Management Secretariat spokesman said the worsening flood situation saw an increase of 257 evacuees from 4,602 evacuees recorded in the evening.
