The remaining 2% involved decoration work and fixing technical equipment
KUALA LUMPUR: Preparations at all venues for the 29th Kuala Lumpur SEA Games (KL2017) are 98% complete and expected to be fully ready by next Tuesday (August 8).
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin who was met while checking the venue for eight sport events at the Malaysian International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) said the remaining 2% involved decoration work and fixing technical equipment.
“As the media has observed today, the MITEC (venue) is nearing completion in terms of seating and match courts….most of the sports’ venues are ready. What’s left to do is just some finishing touches in terms of decoration and security.
“The scanning machine and several other types of security equipment will be installed within this week and I expect MITEC to be fully ready by the Aug 8, when it will be officially launched by the prime minister,” he said.
The MITEC will be the venue for boxing, fencing, gymnastics, indoor hockey, muay thai, ping pong, volleyball and weightlifting events.
In another development, Khairy hoped the country’s athletes could stay free of injuries ahead of the Games.
“Many athletes are still abroad, practising and also competing overseas.
“I am satisfied with the preparation of athletes so far, and we find that many of the athletes have already performed well, setting new national records and so on,” he added.
