Until a new coach is hired, Ismail Ibrahim and Raul Longhi will be taking charge of the team to replace Benjamin Mora
JOHOR BARU: Reigning Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) has parted way with Benjamin Mora who will now return to his post as the head coach of JDT II.
In a statement issued through the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page earlier this morning, JDT Sporting Director Alistair Edward said that Mora was chosen to be the ‘caretaker’ of JDT following the dismissal of Mario Gomez earlier this season.
He said Mora was chosen due to his familiarity with the system at the club and a coach who understood the club’s philosophy.
“Benjamin Mora will now return to his original role as head coach of JDT II. He has been fantastic in moulding the young players for the first team.
“Some of the young players we can see today include Fazly Mazlan, Dominic Tan, Afiq Fazail and Hadi Fayyadh.
“We will reveal the new JDT head coach very soon. In the meantime, Ismail Ibrahim and Raul Longhi will be taking charge of the team,” said Edward.
He added that JDT thanked Mora for his service and hard work for the club.
“He is a young coach with much potential and we are confident he will be an even better coach in the future,” he said.
Despite steering the local giant to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC Cup) Asean zonal semi-final and guiding JDT to the top of the Super League table, Mora’s tactical acumen was repeatedly questioned by the fans.
JDT also lost the Sultan Ahmad Shah Cup and FA Cup to Kedah earlier this season but still has the Super League and the Malaysia Cup to look forward to this season.
