The Sg Besar Umno division chief plans to pursue the post currently held by Youth and Sports minister Khairy Jamaluddin as there are no more areas for him to contest in his constituency
KUALA LUMPUR: Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos has expressed his intentions to contest the party’s youth chief post should it become vacant after the upcoming GE14.
He said his plans to pursue the post currently helmed by Youth and Sports minister Khairy Jamaluddin came in as there are no more areas for him to contest within the Sungai Besar constituency.
“If YB Budiman (Mohd Zohdi) contests in Sungai Besar Parliament (seat), Imran (Tamrin) in Sungai Panjang state seat and Cikgu Samad (Wahab) in Sekinchan state seat, so where will the Umno Sungai Besar division chief contest?
“If there is no more place in Sungai Besar, the division chief would like to contest for Umno youth chief,” he said, during his speech at the opening ceremony of Sungai Besar Umno Youth meeting over the weekend.
Jamal, who is also notoriously known as the Red shirts leader, also asked the delegates present if they are willing to support him should he offer himself to contest for the post at the next Umno party polls.
“Can everyone here support me? Its a long way to go… We have to wait and see after this election,” he said.
However, Jamal refused to elaborate further on the matter in a press conference that followed the officiating ceremony.
He also expressed confidence on meeting all the necessary qualifications to contest for the Umno youth post, when he briefly told reporters “more or less”.
