KUALA LUMPUR: Four teenagers, including two underage boys, were charged in the magistrate’s court in George Town today with the murder of 18-year-old T Nhaveen.
J Ragesuthen and S Gokulan, both 18, and the two other boys, aged 16 and 17, were alleged to have caused Nhaveen’s death at Pusat Pembelajaran Karpal Singh in Jalan Kaki Bukit in George Town between 11pm and 12am on June 9.
They were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code. No plea was recorded from the accused.
The four nodded in understanding when the charge was read to them before magistrate Mohamad Amin Shahul Hamid.
No bail was offered to the accused and the court fixed Aug 29 for mention.
DPP Nurul Fatin Hussin prosecuted while the accused were unrepresented.
Earlier at the sessions court, the four were also charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means to T Previin, 19.
They claimed trial to the offence at the same time and place before Judge Irwan Suaibon.
The offence carries maximum 20 years’ jail and shall be liable to a fine or whipping upon conviction.
Irwan said no bail was granted and fixed Aug 21 for mention. DPP Lim Cheah Yit prosecuted while the accused were unrepresented.
The four were originally investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with weapons. The case was reclassified following the death of Nhaveen on Thursday
Earlier today, George Town OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Omar said in a statement an 18-year-old suspect, who was arrested together with the four teenagers, will be released on a bond and will serve as a prosecution witness.
Nhaveen passed away at the Penang Hospital at 5.31pm on June 15.
He was found unconscious at around midnight on June 10 at a field next to Jalan Kaki Bukit in Bukit Gelugor.
The youth, who was also sodomised and burnt on his back, suffered internal bleeding in his head and abdomen.
Previin who was with Nhaveen was also assaulted and sustained injuries, but managed to escape and get help.
Police managed to locate the five suspects soon after the incident.
